I have a Hyundai Tuscon 2017 in for a pre-service and checks tomorrow morning. I know from the dashboard that there is a fault with the Active Hood System, which is shown as a yellow triangle and an advisory message. I have further scanned this car before loading it into the workshop tonight (fore-warned is fore-armed.....) and I know it has an active fault (i.e. current and present) on the sensor for the Active Hood System - code B1809.
This AHS is a Hyundai and Kia patented system to raise the bonnet a few inches should a pedestrian impact be detected. It relies upon a sensor in or near the front bumper to detect an impact, and the method of raising is by leverage against the hinges and by deployment of a mechanical release mechanism - no pyrotechnics are involved, and it is user-resettable by pressing down on the bonnet, so I believe.
I have checked the latest and greatest Class_IV Testers Manual, and I don't believe there is any provision to test the AHS or its warning systems, and therefore it is exempt from testing full-stop? Is this assumption correct, or will this Beast from the East fail its first MoT in a week's time?
Cheers and TIA, as always.....

Rest of the car looks pretty good, not much to report, just a new set of brake pads and discs at the front ASAP (with the main service) and that's about it.

Not sure if the recall applies to the UK - no information on a recall for this particular car. I did check the latch mechanism yesterday whilst it was on the ramps, and the safety catch is definitely working, albeit a bit sticky - a consequence of main-dealer servicing for the previous two years of visits, as there is nothing specific to say that the catch should be lubricated with silicon grease. Monkey See. Monkey Do.

Thank you Paul It went straight through as it was, and I told the owner to get it up to the main dealership to have it overhauled there afterwards at their own convenience.
