Its one of those "willy waving" targets that politicians love to spout.
First off, this government isn't going to be around in 15 years and they know that, so if the target gets missed its the other team's fault
Secondly, the market is already going in the direction of electric and will probably be all-electric within 15-20 years even without some fake government target

I can't see an issue here, the pace of change is incredible just look at the past 5 years with Hybrid and fully electric vehicles available, and as I have said before these are a stop gap until fuel cells arrive. As for range, honestly how many of us do more than 150 miles a day My round trip too work is max 18 miles so one charge a week if I had a fully electric vehicle.
And I want my grand children to live in a world of clean air and low pollution.

What about the damage that Lithium mining does? Also that fact that Lithium can't be recycled? And everyone in the country plugging in to charge still causes pollution. The whole thing is a farce.

What about the damage that Lithium mining does? Also that fact that Lithium can't be recycled? And everyone in the country plugging in to charge still causes pollution. The whole thing is a farce. I personally - am about as anti electric car as one person can get. But... 1. Lithium mines are leaving huge holes in: Africa - Australia - Bolivia - Congo and they are having a go at getting it out the ground in Cornwall in the UK. Apart from the holes it leaves - there are issues with child labour in Africa - lithium is like gold to poor people. 2. Lithium batteries can be recycled - they are being recycled now. How much energy it takes to do it - is debatable. Tesla are now doing it - in house - as the third party company who did there's - can't make the job pay and have gone skint. 3. If everybody plugs in at the same time - we are gonna need a nuclear power station on every beech in the country (maybe not a bad idea? - I am pro nuclear energy). 4. Farce - maybe? It is very political - and not very practical - the electric car thing. It does have some merit - but nothing I like! The greater threat to the planet is - population growth and consumer consumption - of everything from water to oil (with food in the middle).
Get a moped and and have less kids...

Everyone is being very much mislead with the media and the government I recon. For those of us old enough to go back in time lets think about some of the bulsh1t they have come along with in the past. - Leaded petrol - Our kids are becoming brain damaged because of lead in petrol?
I have grown up in the motor industry from leaving school. I started as an HGV mechanic when there was no such things as CATs, SRC systems, adblue etc. I'm still here in good health. The government band lead in petrol and then alternative unleaded fuel was the order of the day, has any of your kids got better brains now than before?
- Ozone problems - We were told that our transport was creating a hole in the ozone and we needed to get rid of the transport? At some point scientists said that the hole in the ozone was repairing itself and would do over time anyway. It all went quite and nobody talks about the ozone today. I have an AC journal somewhere and if I can find it I'll post up about the ozone climate machine in there that is claimed to repair the ozone.
- Now they talk about the diesel and oxides of nitrogen? What else creates this product in the real world! What about coal? What other sources of energy conversion is actually going on that they won't tell us about that is creating this problem in the environment?
- What about the Air Craft industry, I'll bet they have selective catalyst reduction systems on them as well!!! What pollution do they put out per hour of the day all around the world? Who's talking about banning them from flying!
- What about the Ocean liners and all these cruise ships, what powers them, what about the pollution they create, who is telling them not to sale, how many of all these idiots complaining about climate actually use transport everyday?
There was only ever one guy interviewed on the TV on some remote Ireland somewhere that said his people lived off the fish of the sea and our western world was destroying their food chain.

There is a problem - I am not oblivious to the effects the human race has had on the planet. The problem is: There are too many - medium sized mammals (that's us) - consuming too much by too many of us. In 1960 the population of the planet was 3 billion - in 2020 it was 7.7 billion. In 1800 it was 1 billion - in the year 1000 it was only 2.75 million. We are the real problem - not cars!

Was leaded petrol what was causing acid rain? Be about 20 years or a couple more since 4* was last sold? No - leaded petrol was what was making all the Brummie kids a bit "special". It was found that the lead was accumulating in the brains of kids brought-up alongside and underneath the M6 elevated sections, and an urgent decision was taken to ban lead from fuel in much the same way as they banned lead from paint (because kids like to lick paint?).

I understand that the target is now to ban hybrid cars at the same time as IC-engined vehicles in 2035. Someone has cottoned-on that they are a con, and just weigh a bit more to pollute the planet a bit more.
Remmington has the measure on this one; the problem is too many people on this planet, all consuming resources faster than they can say "capitalism".
Once again, the intervention of government will just confuse matters! They haven't yet grasped the facts. It has taken them nearly 10years to fail miserably to provide a universal broadband service across the country, and that is an easier task than upgrading all the power networks, so draw your own conclusions. 2035 is 15years away, and they are still moving to goalposts on fibre-optic distribution........
Now factor-in the transmission losses for the power that is going to be required. If global warming was a problem beforehand, you haven't seen anything yet!! Those losses all go into heating of the atmosphere, and they need to be accounted-for when considering the overall efficiency of BEV's as well.
We make a whole load of power here in my part of the Highlands, yet we pay a special surcharge on all of our electricity costs, because apparently there are huge spans of cables between the power stations and us. Even though I can drive for 15mins from my front door, and look at several MW of wind-turbines just on this part of the Isle...... So how the cost of distribution gets divvied-up in the future, rural to urban, is anyone's guess - I think not!!!!! Of course the Westminster government is going to screw us over........

I really think this is the problem. It worries me!It is such a difficult thing to address: Insisting people have less kids! "How do you word it?". The human race is now so good at stopping. Plague, pestilence and war. We put so much effort into health car now - we are all living longer - less of us die in infancy. And for the record: I am not into the idea of things like China's one child policy or India's hidden sterilisation of a million people in the 70's. These were just very cruel plans to achieve less food shortages. They did work thou! But they were very cruel when implemented. Also I have had a large family - well above the average UK size of 1.7 kids (world average is 2.4 kids - and when it exceeds the dead 2.0 number you get population growth). Yes I have researched this subject! WE now have mega cities of millions - don't worry about oil - or sending your army to the middle east in the quest for diesel. We will be going to war to get water - if the population expands at the current growth rate.

I don't think is worries my boss at this time, work through the door and all that, you'd think the population had already died off.
