My brother in laws Mk1 focus has always been a bit of a pig to open from the drivers door exterior handle, really you need to push on the door a little so the exterior door handle works. He is under going chemotherapy at the moment so its a bit of a struggle for him and he is opening the dor from the inside, also a struggle.
I'm gonna have a look inside the door panel for him asap, seen a couple of vids online that suggest there is some adjustment or tinkering that can be done, has any of you guys had anything like this that can give any real world pointers.
Cheers.

I've found a decent thread on this, so need to get inside the door panel and adjust the relevant part now.

Having a look at it tomorrow evening so hopefully it will be a easy fix.
The advantage of the light evenings meaning I can have a look asap.

Done in about 45mins or just over. Could do it again faster.
Once access is gained to the mechanism the bit in the picture in earlier post is visible.
A plastic peg links it to the exterior handle mechanism. I used a large 90degree bent pick poked through a hole in the door frame to push/lever the peg out. Then the adjustment can be altered by screwing the thing pictured above up or down the thread. Think I gave it in the end about 8 full turns. The plastic peg is best to put in partially whilst the linkage is disconnected from the handle. Them offer it in places and using a large flat head screwdriver through a hole in the door frame push against the peg gently so it engaged with the outer handle. A bit of wd40 helps here.
That's it, job sorted and he can now get in a lot easier. Will be even easier once his ribs heal as he is using his opposite arm to normal.
