Was having a chat with the ford parts rep the other about this. are parts department is 50 % ford .
They are having a stand alone building built in the local trading estate.
Which will supply the trade
Around 15 staff are moving over
We shall still stock are parts here for the retail and warranty side
Said once they sell off all the current stock Ford will supply the new unit
From what I gather it’s run by the dealer with support from ford
Guessing all to increase trade sales.

My understanding was:
Ford were going the same route at VAG did with TPS.
I was told it was going to be called Ford Direct...? How wrong that bit of info was...!
My local Ford Main Dealer has scaled down on delivery drivers/vehicles in anticipation for the loss of revenue.
WE are struggling with deliveries from Main dealers in our town - we have opened a few parts accounts with dealers out in the sticks (they got no choice but to deliver).

I take it us mere mortals who buy retail won't be able to take advantage of this service? As it stands I'm ordering my ford parts online from Cornwall as my North Wales Ford dealer's that bad!

If the Ford unit being built to supply the trade has no retail/reception then yes you will not be able to walk in the front door from retail to gain trade. Some might not like that but I think it is a good idea to be honest. If you think about a garage and their overheads then the limited trade discount offered (10%) I think is better than a kick in the teeth, and I think is really needed to contribute towards the garages overheads.

There's a Trust First Parts warehouse on the local industrial estate less than a mile (as the crow flys)from me which I have used before and since I retired.(They know me.) The Ford sales showroom used to be Trust Ford until a short time ago and it's now run by Pentagon Motor Group who I understand operate two more Ford garages just out of town. Trust Ford is a trading brand of Ford Retail Limited.

Any business trying to make a living out of car spare parts must be struggling to survive because parts have become much more reliable. Back in the 1970s and 80s I worked near a motor factor. Every Friday the procedure was the same. Dozens of guys like myself would head down there to buy stuff like ball joints and radiator hoses just to fix up old cars and keep them going for another few weeks. We needed the cars to get to work and could not afford good cars or garage repairs.
Of course we still need spare parts like ball joints and hoses but not with the frequency we used them then.
Prior to about 1970 spare parts were only available from the main dealer. Then in the early 1970s independant companies like Moprod and Quenten Hazel came along and took away the business from the dealers. Very often the parts were the same but in different boxes. Now parts have become more specialised as well as more reliable so there are fewer parts sold. The dealers seem to be moving to take back the business from the factors. Soon we will be back to the 1960s with parts only available from dealers who reside in business palaces and who charge as much as they like.
