Hi all, Have any of you put any taught in to converting a car like a golf, etc,to electric
I have a 40mile round trip to work every day and from what i have heard the kits available can do 50miles on a full charge,i could charge it at night when the electricty is cheap, it would work out at around 2 euros a night to charge it,
Tax 120euro a year,
You would have to get a engineers report on the car in order to get it through a nct, have the abs brakes, srs systems working!
I know there would be a bit of labor involved(it would be a nice weekend project) but if you compare it to modern day cars now, the system is pretty basic,
The only kick in the bum is! between the battery's, motor, etc, it could cost some thing like 10k,
Just said i would throw the idea out to see what your taughts on it would be,

We were in the austrian alps a few years back during the summer and went on a cycling day trip with these electric bicycles, our guide that was with us told us to turn the power down half way because the battery would only last about 60 minutes if the assist level was turned up full, the more force that u put in to peddling the more the motor would assist you,(the more it helps you the faster the battery goes down) Of course one person in the group left it turned up too much during the day and the battery ran out about a hour from home, and trust me u dont want to be cycling them with a flat battery, You would cover a nice bit of ground in a short period with them(compared to a manual bike) and get some exercise too, There is a nice example of a wrx converted to electric here www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOw2_BXdDZEAnd here is a fella who can multy task like no other!I wouldnt feel to safe living along side this fella www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyG--nrFdPM

Car mechanics carried an article about this a few years back. Basically unless you wanted something expensive and slow it wasn't worth the bother. Also, you do not want to mess about with electric car voltages. We're not talking a tickle here, we're talking crispy fried duck...
