Given that every car now either has a cat or a DPF fitted, and we do have a four gas anaylser which is used 99% of the time for mot tests, I was offered a SnapOn ScanGas 5 gas tester complete kit with infra read printer and book, cables filters etc. My main thought was it is a 5 gas so it will measure Nox, so was thinking about EGR systems when I was deciding should I or not buy it. I was also concerned about maintenance and parts if required, so did some digging to find out about parts availability and a local electronics repair centre said they actually calibrate and repair these ScanGas analysers. I bought it and hoping I did the right thing. Have any of you got one and if so what do you think about them!

I wonder if future emissions testing will involve Nox testing also

I am following this post with interest...
I agree with Karl about NOX testing...
While diesel cars may be the "enemy" now.
Percentage wise they don't fail MOT testing very often.
We only have a TEN four gas analyser here...

Very soon I'm going to be looking at a Vauxhall Corsa C with an EML warning lamp illuminated, I'm to understand there are no starting or running issues but have been advised that the lambda circuits are pulling codes. I have a good video camera so am going to video a diagnostic and repair to this car, and while doing a diagnosis I'm going to use the 5 gas ScanGas and see how it performs. I'm interested in what the Nox will look like before and after repair. Like remmington I have a range of diagnostic scanners, both generic and dealer level, so will be interesting what each scanner shows and pass on the results of my findings. I hope it will be well received.

I doubt that a 5-gas tester will be offered for diesels any time soon; exhaust gases are generally too sooty to run anything fine and delicate up the pipe. Conversely, it's the diesels that the various test authorities will be interested-in, not gasolines, as they are the ones that will drive NOx environmental levels.
I would suggest that the 5-gas tester is a diagnostic tool for gasolines, rather than a certification tool for diesels!

I agree valhalla yes it is not for diesel emissions as far as I understand unless some form of accessory is available (filter) or something for trapping soot, but it seems a good portable piece of kit with a printer to print test results for the customers after servicing. I didn't get chance today but I am going to test a CAT vehicle on the Test Station equipment and then check again using the scangas, hopefully the results should be very similar, if not the same.

More likely battery vapor systems will be take into consideration along side with safety checks that are more strict for electric vehicles.
