Aren't you able to advance the timing by the dizzy on these. Here's a Service repair manual link for the CVH Ford engine spannermonkey. It's for the Ford Escort but very similar.

Tyre preference is? So you will take a set (4 for 5) without tyres if the price is right. Do you want ones that need a refurb?

Got sorted thanks, found some nice doglegs with tyres, should look ok. I was going to suggest doglegs if you couldn't source Pepper Pots. Weren't the dogleg Alloys standard on the Escort XR3i IIRC. Been a while since I drove any Escort.

So,took it for a wee drive today and the steering wheel being off centre was niggling me,but try as i might it will not centre straight, with the wheels straight ahead the steering will only sit at 1/4 turn left or right, thinking maybe column has been out and the splines not lined up properly or am i way off, don't think it's tracking as drives true and no uneven tyre wear.

Track rod arms need adjusting. Have you put the new dogleg alloys on it? Trying swapping the front wheels around left to right etc see if it makes any difference. If that doesn't cure it a full geometry including the rear wheels need checking as a rear toe displacement can corrupt the steering position. It might be a case of centralising the steering wheel straight and clamp it then adjust the wheels to suit.

Thanks for that, been looking at some diagrams and it seems i am missing a plastic collar that sits behind steering wheel on top of the bearing ring ,they snap,so probably reason it ain't there,so that can't be helping.
