As above 2011 plate with just over 11000 miles on the clock looses power "sometimes" on inclines/hills etc etc, ie going up a not too steep hill it looses all power, even with a change down of gear the engine seems to loose its breath so to speak even sometimes dropping to 3rd is required to get it to accelerate. However at other times it can drive up the same hill normally. On the flat the car seems normal and higher up the rev range it pulls well. I am aware as the engine is the VCT model its naturally a little flat in the lower rev range, but Its feels too underpowered . As well as this the car seems to have a slight misfire/lumpiness when held at around 2-2.5k......As its under warranty it will be going into the dealers......but I just wondered if you learned chaps had any ideas etc etc......I have read that Ford plugs are not as good as they should be these days and NGK are the better plug to use......If this is the case I'm prepared to put a set in. I also thought of doing a compression test to rule out any problems with that area .......I have a compression tester I used to use on my trusty old EFI CVH engine from time to time. Is this something I can still do on this engine or could I damage things and shoot myself in the foot I do have a DIY type fault code reader, but it shows no codes or pending codes.

Which ps version do you have? There not the fastest of cars Common complaint with these of general lack of power. There's a PCM reflash to improve throttle/power delivery.
Your dealer should know about it
That's assuming there's no other faults with the vehicle

Probably not your issue here but i have seen vvt engines have very strange performance issues due to low oil levels and not changing oil enough !

Probably not your issue here but i have seen vvt engines have very strange performance issues due to low oil levels and not changing oil enough ! We see early vvt engines with faulty solenoids and vvt pulley units Correct oil and intervals are critical I took a vvt unit apart the other day,the oil ways are so small it's easy to see why

We see a lot of early vvt engines with faults with the solenoids/vvt units Having the correct oil and service intervals is critical I took apart a vvt pulley recently and you can see the oil ways are so small it's easy to see why

Only had it for 6 months and as with all my other cars, it will have 6000 mile oil and filter changes.....I knew they aint no rocket ship but when it does run out of breath, its more than just underpowered, and with 125ps id expect it to pull better....also it does pull well at other times....

Booking the car in for my bext day off.......feels like the powerloss is getting worse. compared it to a 70k 1.6 Zetec SE mk 1 focus this afternoon and the old Zetec SE flew straight up the hill in 3rd wanting a gear change at the top whereas my TiVCT was flat and out of breath and looking for 2nd!!!. obviousley the newer car is heavier and tight but, i would have expected the 125PS engine to perform better than it did. also the gearing seemed the same to.......came across this on Youtube today, explains the TiVCT principle quite well to a lamen like me.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8uJktVbbd8

Dealer has had the car for two days now.......they reckon they cant hear that rattleing in the engine.......there are no diagnostic codes and there is no PCM update (im assuming my car must have the latest one) I purposely didnt mention any PCM update of what you guys have told me when I handed the keys over....would a faulty VVT solenoid or pulley unit generate a fault code....Im hoping that Im not getting the "No Fault code no problem" story all over again......

Can you drive another car of the same spec/age
Or demonstrate the loss of power?
If they can't reproduce they will give it back, call um and say you'll road test with technician who's looked at ideally or someone with a bit of knowledge ( if possible )

Do you use supermarket fuel or the branded stuff?
Likey to call come from the same source, but can make a big difference in some vehicles

only branded petrol and Iwhen I pick it up im going to make a few notes, find a local road nr to the dealer where the car looses its power, then take the tech out to demonstrate it......its totally typical of my luck that it doesnt happen for the garage lads. The garage are pretty helpfull i have to admit so its just a case of getting them to see the problem......
