hi everyone. this car came in originally, the owner was told its a heater matrix, cos he was loosing so much coolant, that is now sorted,it was an expansion tank(just for a change) . im pretty happy that its not a leaking matrix now. the car has clear water in the drivers and passengers and o/s/r footwell. i couldnt tell if it was rain water or clear water from cooling system. (after tank, ive added antifreez into system) theres also water getting into boot, landing on carpet above spare wheel. i havnt done any checks yet,but 3rd brake seemed loose and ive cleaned the drain on scuttle panel. any other things that might be common on this model. thanks for reading.

Rust? These cars have the T-shirt for that, but humour aside, it might be possible the water is driving into the front footwells through the front wheelarches and chassis legs.
I despair when I get a car without a/freeze and has a coolant leak (I mentioned this a short while back with an Audi A6 that had come my way for a diagnostic), but as a veteran SD1 owner, I have some qualification is tracking-down water leaks!!! 14 years on from my last SD1 purchase, I still haven't found all of them yet on that particular car, and the carpet foam underlay is just so horrible to handle from the sticky a/freeze mix..........

Are the rear foot wells wet too ?
Lots of possibilities
But owners not gonna want to spend hours on it
I'd start out with the boot leak first
Sealant can crack in the roof gutter channel
Door seals / windshield/ door speaker list goes on
Of course the best way to trace a leak will be to gut the interior and shower test for a day or so
But labour intensive

Old fashioned leak finder.
Sprinkle talculm powder in every suspect area. Any water run will be obvious after next shower or hose treatment etc.
Other than that its a lot of time trying to find every leak.

hi,thanks for the replies. hes taken it for now,hes gona try to soak up the water in the footwells himself. ive told him to get the car polished,as that can stop water getting in from roof joints etc for a while. lets see how it goes.
