A friend has just had an AA check done on a car, and apart from a few niggles which you'd expect, it's been declared a sound purchase.
The only thing mentioned was that the dealer only has the older style logbook rather than the new red one. On those grounds he said under no circumstances buy the car! Is it possible the owner never got the newer style certificate? I know in theory if they still had the replacement logbook the previous owner could still 'own' the car on paper but is it a big risk?

Wasn't the change of colour due to a big batch of stolen logbooks

When you say old style, how old? I've not yet had an updated one for my beetle. Still got the same single page one I got when I bought it back in 1993

HPI check was done which was ok - but they won't honour any claim if the latest red logbook isn't available

This is for members of the public wishing to check the validity of a registration certificate prior to the purchase of a vehicle. If you want send me a PM and I'll send you some info on the stolen green V5C. Sorry I can't post this on an open Forum but the information is out their if you look for it.

Update, he's got the dealer to register it in their name, adds an extra owner of course but then he'll have the new logbook to send off in a couple of weeks. Don't think I would have bothered personally but that's the only way HPI would honour any claim
