I've just loaded a burning disc to my other laptop. Not paying attention Trying to watch footy answer the dog and bone and on my laptop all at the same time I've only gone and deleted my e drive USB with loads files/documents stuff on it. Don't suppose anybody knows a way to get it back. Who said "Men can't multi-task?"

First off don't do anything more to the drive like adding/removing files Secondly, try a program like Recurva www.piriform.com/recuvaTo restore the data to a folder on your hard drive

Control/Z or undo might work assuming youhaven't disconnected the drive.

I've managed to restore most of the drive onto a folder on my hard drive but some of the Word Excel stuff has been allocated numbers instead of the file names previously saved as. Also some of the Excel documents won't open I keep getting a pop up Text import box which is all gibberish on some Excel files. I use Libre Office 5.2.2.2 to open Word and Excel documents. Any thoughts on the text import box gibberish?

They're created when word docs or excel files are saved as a temporary copy, and then deleted. You could try opening the documents in libre office's word processing or spreadsheet package, as the problem is there's no easy way to tell if the file is a Word temporary file or an excel temporary file, and each will look like rubbish if opened in the wrong program.

No the numbers are as such [000001] etc and when I look in the Properties it tells me ........ Microsoft Excel 97-2003 Worksheet (.xls) I think I have them saved on an eternal driver from my old laptop I backed up before I gave the other laptop to my son-in-law to have an upgrade on it a few weeks ago.

If you get stuck attach them to an email and send them over to me, and I'll see what I can do.

If you get stuck attach them to an email and send them over to me, and I'll see what I can do. I think I am winning. Recovered some more that where in the wrong format and wanting to be opened by another programme. Did that programme again and picked out certain files and numbers etc and saved them to another folder on my hard drive. Cheers Rhyds your a star for the recovery programme link.
