Well I have now sold my old Nova on and now have 2 jags, to play with in my retirement I have had the S Type a while now and just about got it up to my standard, removed all the under floor covers and cleaned and waxoiled changed engine oil & filter air pollen & fuel filters, changed gearbox & diff oil, removed sill covers cleaned the sills and filled with waxoil sprayed sill covers & replaced, complete brake service including new rear disc's ,pads & brake pipe ( first dealings with electric handbrake ) its looking well now so this week I bought a X type just been checking it and when every thing is turned off and the key removed there is a bussing noise from behind the dash, has anyone come across this, looks like I will have to pull the fuses to find out what's making the noise. also now and again the light comes on with code P1000 reads checking system not completed ( sounds like fun for me to find the problem ) Both jags are 2.5 engine's with manual box did not want the problems of the auto box. One day they will be gifts for my 2 great grandsons I won't be here so they can argue who gets which one

One day they will be gifts for my 2 great grandsons I won't be here so they can argue who gets which one Does the X type have air con/ climate control? Vaux I get this buzzing noise sometimes in my Mondeo ST220 and it's normal I believe because of how the air con/climate control system operates. I sometimes here it when I turn the engine off sometimes I don't. It doesn't bother me but if your concerned about yours there is/was a Jag TSB to re-wire it so it goes off with the ignition as when manufactured they can still work for a period of time after the vehicle has been turned off and locked The X type shares quite a few components and the platform is a modified version of the Mondeo platform. Depending on how good your hearing is (mine isn't good ) you can sometimes here it before you turn the key. It's the HVAC system's aspirator pump sampling the cabin air for temp adjustments when you start the car. If it's really noisey it may be blocked or have a restriction which would lead to a component failure. My Mondeo noise is faint and I believe this is normal so I wouldn't worry. Sorry forgot to add to your P100 fault code has the battery been disconnected or showing signs of? Is the MIL light on permanently as it may not be? You may have to do a drive cycle test.

Thanks for the reply Nobster, I can put up with the noise its not very loud sounds like we have both got the same problem, as you say the S type is a glorified Mondeo and not a patch on my S type, you may be right I will have to give the X type a good run to see if it will re- program.

Your welcome vaux. The noise isn't a problem of such more a feature of the system like I said earlier and how it works. I like the S type myself and I had a good look at one which was the 2.7 diesel twin turbo jobbie I was told if things go wrong with them it'll empty my wallet so I left well alone even though after a good test drive etc I had to have a word with myself. Mrs Nobster likes the XKR. Again they have issues.

I have a feeling my father-in-law's x-type makes a similar noise.
I think p1000 is one of those funny "something wrong with something else" rather than a specific fault code.
I got it recently when an upstream Lambda went - along with the actual Lambda code. It cleared when I cleared the Lambda codes.

P1000 on Fords is nowt to worry about. It's where a check system hasn't been completed.
