A little bit of technical info on something I have found with an SRI on a 2012 Audi A3 TDI with an 8P chassis code;
Previous garages had failed to clear the service reminder message down on this car; it is only low mileage, so hasn't had to have to many services yet, although there was clearly an issue with the number of services (too few) it was asking-for, given the type of driving and the time factors involved.
A/D shows the correct scheduling for fixed and flexible services on these sorts of VAGs, which alludes to the problem I found. The service is comprised of both oil-service and inspection service components, which are treated separately in the SRI counters (within the Instruments pack module), similar to other German brands.
Later VAG cars have an SRI reset function which defeats the "out-of-the-box" mapping for Ross-Tech VCDS, and the tool is able to recognise such cars and let you know that it has a "UDS" type of function (or similar) and that you will need to go into the Instruments module channel by channel to deal with the different aspects of the service (oil quality, distances , times, etc. etc.).
The car in question did not do this, and is accessible for the SRI directly, however it has required a similar strategy to that which Ross-Tech suggest for the UDS's. What I have found is that if you do a combined oil and inspection service, with other A/D options, you will need to scroll down the SRI components list and act on each of those individually, even if it makes no sense at first. You would think that a flexible-interval schedule would not require some lines to be accessed, but in-fact they are mutually exclusive to one-another. So if you have a TDI on a Flexible Service Schedule (my car had erroneously been shifted off a flexible schedule, and that was why the servicing was not requesting properly, so I fixed that first), you would need to access something like;
Flexible Oil Service Reset (Longlife/Great Britain/Diesel)
Mileage Based Service Reset (Great Britain)
Change To Flexible Intervals (Great Britain/Diesel)
The thing that can throw the logic, is that the instrument pack will gong for a service on any of the individual components, but will not say which one. To make matters worse, Channel 02 of the Instruments module will report a service output message of "0", even if the mileage service is due based on the logic of the distances on other Channels, but the service reminder on ignition-on with the key will still be there! So Channel 02 is no guarantee that he service reminder has gone out, it is only by resetting each part of the SRI function that you will clear this message (and obviously DO THE SERVICE rather than be the average spiv on the 'net and just put the light out!!!!)
