Just had a call off the father in law, sounds like his timing belt has exited, looking on A/D its gonna have bent the valves. Possibly gonna be a uneconomical repair but need to weigh the options up.
FCF might be able to shed light on this.
Is it likely to need valve guides etc, do the pistons suffer when the belt fails.
Replacement engine or off to China?

If it's the older version, psa engine, not really a bad job, looks worse than it is. Usually bends 8 valves if belts failed,or all 16 if tentioner or pump gives up. Still viable to repair tho. There won't be any piston or valve guide damage. If he doesn't wana repair, then let me know, might be interested in buying it. I have an identical c4 here,07 plate, manual box gone!!!

All the ones I have done have bent lots of valves. When the belt expired!
As FCF says "not a bad job to do".
What is the rest of the car like? Worth the effort?

Cheers guys, had a quick look tonight in the rain, managed to part move timing belt upper cover and its deffo a very slack or snapped belt.
The car isn't a minter but neither is it a total wreck. Its a 54 reg, he only paid £400 for it last year, he has the use of another car for a bit so we may look at repairing it, would be nice if its only done 8 valves rather than all 16, as the engineers I used quoted me upto £10 a valve with the VAT. Then there is a headset, head bolts, timing belt kit, a water pump and probably some coolant. He probably won't find anything any better without spending more than the repair will cost even if it exceeds what he originally paid for the car.
Are these a multi layer steel head gasket?
Just need to work out where I'm gonna do the repair, can do without it blocking my driveway up but at the same time it will be a p.i.t.a doing at his place.

FCF Do you know if the flywheel locking pin/tool and the camshaft locking pins will be in this set? Wouldn't bother about flywheel lock bus as its got no belt on I can't mark it up lol.
Hopefully gonna get the car delivered here 2 weeks today and get the head off.

I've used 13mm bolts(8mm) diameter for cams And I'm sure the flywheel will take the 6mm pin,you can use a 10mm head size bolt. I'll double check tommorow for ya.

Got the old shed delivered here tonight, had a quick half hour on it, gave up as its too dark now.
Timing belt cover unbolted, exh heat shield unbolted but won't come out. Aux belt and bottom pulley off. Exh manifold to head nuts and studs are all soaked in WD40. Coil pack and cover removed, induction pipework removed.
Hopefully get a bit of time on it either tomorrow or Friday with a view to having it all stripped Sat eve or at worst Sunday.

I will get you the pictures of the head and cam pulleys soon @ FCF.
Radiator out allowed heat shield off and after a bit of swearing the exh mani is off. Ran out of light again.
FCF Whats the best approach for the inlet manifold, leave attached to head and remove with head or detach and try and move it back out of the way?
