MT2500 has same programming and actuators as any Snapon with same software version. 9.2 would perform same programming and actuator functions as Solus with 9.2 installed. Still got my old MT2500 use it as a retro scanner on old VWs/GMs/Fords got all the old connectors and everything, The other lads know to ask for an assist if it hasn,t got a 16 pin DLC If it will do the job I still reach for my MT2500. I'm just so used to using it. Does some 2006 cars, can often squeeze it into a 2007. I wanted a 9.2 cart for it but couldn't get one.

I've noticed since the Solus Ultra came out theres always been a good few on ebay, they always seem to be a few weeks or months old, there were four on yesterday, seem to make around £1600. Can't help wondering if theres a problem with them. Back engineering the existing software to keyless system springs to mind, anyone been using one, ok on older cars ?
Same with Vantage scope, there always seems to be a a few on ebay that don't get bids, or nowhere near what they want for them, whats the problem with them ? Are they too slow for can signal or somthing ? Anyone use one of them ?
Suppose it could just be Snapon are a popular tool and owners need the cash.
Maybe prices are just getting softer, somthing has to give, look at price of Launch Master, £1800 with 1 years updates, thats a deal made to suit smaller pockets.

if they arnt stolen then the updates for snap on scanners is over 500 pounds a go,normally you need two a year. then you have different keys for different cars. i think the latest ones dont use keys anymore. altho snap ones are very easy to use they dont in depth enough in most modules. the verus i used for the transit conect needed to know if the 11th digit of chassis number was 6,yes. i then had to fit the S2A key to the scanner! then it needed to know the engine code out of a possible 5. i went for one out of two possibilites that had a tdci and then tries to get live data on the screen. after an age the scanner said this function is not supported!!! in contrast,i plugged my superscan in using the old software that was last updated in 2010. plugged in selected ford, selected all systems then select pcm control module, select auto detect all options came on the screen straight away. codes, live data, actuators and special functions. selected special functions and there i had it,pages and pages of info at my finger tips. annoying i had to go into instrument cluster to get live data for clutch pedal switch!!!! the actual verus is quite big and bulky as well.

Cheapest way to do Snapon updates is monthly subs, minimum contract 1 year.
Its possible to do this even if scanner is up to 2 software releases out of date.
So basically its one year of payments, one year with out payments, to update every other year, works out about £300 a year.
£1800 does make the Launch attractive, considerably cheaper than a Solus Ultra, I don't think theres any penalty for updating after several years either.
Connect engine number is on a sticker at bottom of passenger B-post, will be somthing like YWPA, right engine selction will give data.

Until anyone has used a range of scan tools properly i wouldnt listen to any negatives as they are often based on ignorance and low experiance and often just repeating what they have heard or read !!

Snap on do some good courses now on how to operate and use there equipment yes i know i did go on a snap on local evening course once. apart form the actual tech info gained it was a really good evening and speaking to other self employed mechanics all in the same boat as me was very theraputic. dont get me wrong,i actaully like snap on products and scanners. i was just pointing out why someone might sell them. i like any product which works well even if its expensive,eg apple stuff.

I,m not getting into my current range of scan tools on this thread, I know what they can do and what they cant. We are trialling a couple of multi brand tools to see if they fit what we do at roadside. Big thing for us is, can they tell the ECM a new battery has been fitted on cars with a monitor system/hybrids/VAG brands/stop starts. I have used dealer equipment/aftermarket/basic EOBD and Bosch in the past. I have a soft spot for my MT2500 though, in its day it was the dogs b*llocks even the other dealer techs prefered it to the genuine gear for a lot of jobs. Big changes coming

Lots of reasons I like Snapon, trouble-shooter is one of them, the old MT has it loaded, very handy for making a clueless gibbon like myself appear reasonably able. Even the revered Scanner-danner learns from trouble-shooter. Have a look at how he discovered the MAP/EAC relationship, Solus Pro trouble-shooter comes into play at 7.50: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C075DS2Ud4Trickydicky, what tools are you trialing, is Autel DS708 in the mix ?
