The focus is behaving itself at the moment following its annoying failure to proceed when a rear brake shoe fell apart. Its had a few more jobs done on it since then, but as they were generally service and simple repair I could do them myself rather than leave it to the garage who did the gearbox seal, rear brakes and exhaust.
The first was the rear anti roll bar droplinks. I'd noticed the car knocking on bumps but couldn't work out why until I noticed the end of one of the droplinks had in fact snapped off and was nowhere to be seen! I put two new droplinks on and the car's handling is now more like it should be, with the back end nice and tight. I'd imagine the links were past their best a while back, as the through bolt holding the broken link had signs of being eaten away by corrosion.
I then gave it its annual filters service (it gets an oil+filter every 6 months, but the air and pollen filters are in for 12) and I was pretty shocked at how bad the pollen filter looked (considering it had only been in for 12 months). The air filter looked OK, but needed changing. I've also stripped and greased the front brakes as they'd not been off since I bought the car, and despite being "dry" everything seemed to be in place.
The only other thing it got was a quick going over with the carpet shampooing machine I'd rented to sort the house. Its brought the front seats up lovely!

I got a letter from BMW telling me that the 320d is near the end of its three-year warranty and inviting me to bring the car in for a free end-of-warranty check. This surprised me because around here most garages seem to just let you slide over the line and then say "hard luck" if anything needs doing after the deadline.
I left it in last week and told them that the stop-start is very lazy when the car is hot. They fitted a new starter and say that this should cure the problem. They still have to resolve the problem of over-sensitive parking sensors.
When I got it home I looked it over myself and found that the paint on the alloy wheels seems to be "bubbling" in places. (This is not the usual white corrosion). I will bring it over to them next week and see what they say.

Pictures of the O/S headlight and seal. If as Karl recons it's not available separately I'll see if I can find a better second hand one instead of spending a few bob buying a new headlight. I have tidied it up as it was blowing in the wind at speed. Glue it on with some black mastic, job done. I've got to clean it up when I find the time and I have some Gorilla glue.

It is indeed..... We got back from visiting last weekend, amongst the post was a letter from VOSA/VW stating I hadnt had my car sorted..... Cheekie bastards, they were supposed to let me know when to take it in according to the last correspondance I got from them.....(VW that is..)
That was why I was concerned when I posted earlier about it maybe failing its MoT back in June.....
They also need to carry out an inspection on the car....I asked why when they had already done so when they serviced it...." Duty of care" was the reply.....My ar*e....they want me to buy a new car or stump up for some repair work.... Well they can go f**k themselves....bastards....
Can you tell I'm a tad upset/annoyed?...grrrr.
The Yanks get paid off for having cars that cheat the system... What do we get? Sweet FA.. A letter from VOSA as a slap on the wrist....

Have you read Valhalla's thread on the VW Audi emissions recall - mandatory? One of his Customers received a letter from Audi. So to clarify chippie is your letter from VW or VOSA?

Some people don't want/aren't bothered with a "service" wash Others think it's an full valet And complain All the while they have to do it as s requirement of the franchise and are rated on it All a load of b*llocks

Additionally car comes in filthy dirty. Is washed for the first time in months
Only to uncover a bunch of dents/scratches of which the customer was unaware
So of course it must have be scratched while you had it !

I've cut the flappy bit off so I'll see how it is tomorrow at a certain speed it starts. Within the legal Motorway limit I might add.

I went over to the BMW dealer today and asked them to have a look at the bubbling (or blistering) on the alloy wheels. I did not have an appointment but they took it in anyway. They examined it in the workshop and told me that they would submit a report to BMW. Four hours later I got a phone call from the dealer saying that BMW had approved a full set of new alloys and they would arrive in a few days. I may yet have to take back some of the things I said about them.

So the car went in Friday morning.... After a discussion with one of the service oiks, it transpires the modification is not mandatory at all....
The way the letter was worded from VW ( with reference to VOSA or whatever...) it appeared as though it was....
Anyhow, went to Wellingborough yesterday and there are no detrimental affects to economy or performance......56 mpg...at 75 mph down the M1....
