Hi guys , It's been a while since I posted on here but life has been busy these past few months. Anyway
I'm wanting to change the alternator belt on my dad's 2010 1.2 I10 with air con, and I have to admit I haven't looked into it that much but I can tell that there is not a lot of room to work in.
Are these the stretch type belts where there is no adjuster on them and you have to get a special stretch tool like this www.amazon.co.uk/GAT-SFT001-Stretch-Installation-Tool/dp/B00AJVKOJ2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453749600&sr=8-2&keywords=SFT001
Or is there another way round it without buying a special adjustment tool?
Thanks.

Lookng at the diagram for its route, I would expect the adjustment to be on the alternator.

One of the other guy's did a 08 one yesterday and they where stretch belts, I didn't take much notice but I do know he borrowed my tools to fit them.

Don't suppose you could ask the chap who replaced the belt if there was a knack to doing it and how easy it was. Did he use a proper tool like this www.askthemechanic.co.uk/images/Fitting_Strech_Belts_Gates.JPG or did he improvise and butcher it on? with a pry bar or similar?

With stretch belts I usually jack the belt side of the car up place it in gear, cut the old belt off losely position the new belt on with it hanging off the bottom pulley and turn the wheel, in turn it turns the crank and the belt goes on.
If that makes any sense, haha, hard day today.

I'll ask him in the morning, I didn't hear him swearing too much so it can't of been too bad, this is the tool I have belt tool I've not used it for removing but to be honest everyone else seems to use it more than me! not that I don't use it, I just don't seem to get regular service jobs

He used the tool and it was quite easy to do.
