A friend of ours took her car to kwikfit for the MOT and it failed on o\s\f top inner wishbone bushes and bottom ball joint and she was quoted £400 to sort it. As she was walking back to her car the tester ran over to her and said that he could do the work at home for £200. She agreed and he went round after work to collect it. The following day he came back with a new MOT and took his £200. When she drove the car it felt the same as before on the road so she asked me to look at it.i jacked it up and found shit loads of play in the inner bushes and ball joint(i would have marked as dangerous on an MOT).and when i looked i could see that nothing had been replaced Do you reckon she should shop him to VOSA or threaten him with VOSA to get her money back? Its twats like this that really wind me up!!

Threat or reporting him to shitfit would probably get money back. If not, try punching him in the b*llocks

Cash in hand job? Technically cash in hand no receipt, she can't really do much. Kwik Krap won't like him poaching work and would most likely sack him.

Don't put him in a corner, offer a way out,............I'd drive down to see him in your Snapon/ATA/Bosch jacket, tell him she left it for checking and what you've found, ask him what he wants to do about it........then tell him you'll do the work and smooth it over if he hands over the £200 immediately, or you'll have to report back with your findings and advise her of the options.

Stealing work from employer, conning customer, bad mot practice.

Just to add I know for a fact that the company mentioned trawl the net looking for anything mentioning them, I've been on passionford when I have seen customer services join up and reply to a thread to try and help resolve a issue somebody had.

A couple of National firms that I've worked for in the past take a very dim view of poaching work.. You get caught, you're fired, simple as that

A guy I worked with a few years ago (not for very long!) went out to a megane with hg failure. He gave them a quote to do the work, they were happy, he even delivered it back to them with a receipt he knocked up himself. I had to pick it up a couple of days later when the owner tried to drive it and found that the kseal hadn't magically fixed it. The guy wad made to give a full refund, pay retail rate for the job to be done properly, then got invited for a chat without tea and biscuits.
