Oli, Is this on a Disco2? In which case it is very common, and the fix is dead easy. Part ex it for a Rangie. Out of the frying pan and into the fire......not least if it is a P38A (same front axle arrangement as the D2, with floating swivel bush, etc. etc.) Every D2 that judders is down to the same thing; pattern brake discs. Most of them warp with heat/rust after 3months. Never seen this on any other car like it, but there's a Chinese firm out there making a fortune out of tight-a*** Landrover owners that think they are saving themselves money. For £5 more per disc, you can buy decent Brembo pattern items through the mainstream independants - they never give any more trouble once fitted. I've done 4 D2's last year alone for this problem, all four fixed now.

Really. I've always liked the P38. It's a love / hate relationship; Garages love them, owners hate them.

This is a disco 1, but I'm intrigued by what the fix is for the disco 2.
I did consider a P38A when I got my the first of my discos in 2008. Glad I didn't though, I like the simplicity of springs, no ECUs and a good honest 300tdi.
Interesting what you say about cheap discs, the ones on mine are Britpart which has a slightly mixed reputation for quality. It's also got EBC green stuff pads which I've heard can warp discs.

The Britpart / EBC combination is exactly the problem that has manifested itself on the D2's, the worst combination you can have for judder and warpage. Not come across it too much on D1, but you need to ditch the disks, and possibly consider standard pads. The fix, as I mentioned above, is to go to Brembo discs, which are available over the phone/web from Paddocks as their "mid-range" option for discs. I only specify Brembo disks and pads together for "budget" repairs, and OEM for newer models.

Ah, that's very interesting Valhalla. I wonder why the D2 is more prone to it? I wonder if it is because more of them have grooved/cross drilled brakes etc or perhaps it's because the D2 has bigger wheels/tyres, so the discs need more force and get hotter. My disco does have taller tyres, which is the reason I thought EBCs would be worth having. They've never made it stop any quicker anyway, so I think they're due a change when I get a chance.

Question about the Mk6 fiesta again...as well as the discs, were looking at the front suspension arm bushes, are they a diy swap, say to fit polybushes etc etc, We have a bearing press in the garage that weve used to swap bushes and bearings on other cars before now, but weve always been able to get the part to the press, do the MK6 arms unbolt easy enough away from the sub frame, ie no special tools needed etc etc.

Have you fitted the discs and pads and did it cure the judder?

And if you've got a press fitting your uprated bushes shouldn't be a problem. Can't give much advice as I've never fitted them.. You'll probably have more difficulty removing the old ones.
