Im toying with the idea of swapping the old 4x4 for a single car transporter. Just a small transit sized thing. I seem to remember something about "tacho" requirements. I would only be using to fetch my auction purchases home. Does anyone run one of these things that could give me a "heads up"? Thanks

Anything under 3.5tonne gvw ie Transit/Sprinter you can use without a tacho, but if you tow with it for business use, then whilst towing you'd have to use a tacho. Anything over 3.5 tonne you'd need a tacho, an Operators licence, a yard to put it in and a few grand in the bank I used to run a 3.5 tonne Fiat Ducato beavertail, but I always felt I was pushing my luck.. You'd got to mind the axle weights Generally what size/weight of car are you going to put on the back?

Hi, mate. Well it could have anything from clio up to Mondeo estate size. So, business use would be defined as using it for hire or reward? So, as long as I didnt accept payment for delivering anyone elses cars Im ok?

When the last place I worked at bought some 3.5 robbers, they went for Renault masters with ally bed and pull out ramps, bought coz.they had the best carrying capacity of anything available at the time (apart from the Isuzu, but they're shit) at just shy of 2 ton. That'll easily take most cars that will fit on the bed. Don't pull stuff on backwards though, as rear axle will be over and steering will go scary light ;D

Well so long as you don't tow, don't overload it then you're fine. No need for o license or tacho as already mentioned. This is why so many recovery outfits have them
