Hello. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what this problem could be?
At speed (approx above 40-50mph) I can hear what I can only describe as a buzzing noise (maybe a whine) coming from the front end - possibly engine area. It happens when driving straight on, not turning. The noise seems to get louder the faster I go.
My car is a 2001 petrol 5dr 2.0 with manual transmission. There doesn't seem to be any noticeable leaks under the car.
The timing chain and alternator pulley / bearings, were replaced six months ago, so it's definitely not them. Its definitely NOT the typical timing chain rattle.
Has anyone any ideas?
Thanks, Ian.

Thanks for the replies.
The noise seems to get worse the faster the road speed.

Thanks for the replies. The noise seems to get worse the faster the road speed. Does the noise increase or decrease when you turn hard left or hard right?

I can't find anything that is loose. The noise doesn't increase when turning left or right. I replaced all four tyres with Greenmax Linglongs about a year ago - yes, they're budget ones about £45 a corner.

Does it only make the noise when car is moving, or can you get the sound at high revs whilst stationery? If it is only when moving its either loose trim/part or its related to the drive train. Anything from gearbox, driveshaft, wheel bearings, wheels or tyres.
