Hi all,
my saabs turbo has literally stopped working overnight. The engine runs lovely all the way to 4000 rpm, no probs at all. However the turbo should kick in and it doesnt. Not even past 3000rpm! It used to be really laggy and then just fly but now it just doesnt work as if its been switched off.
i have a bit of oil in the intake but nothing crazy for a car with 170k miles. The map sensor was blocked but have since cleaned it. I have leak checked virtually all the hoses on the engine with leak spray.
any ideas guys? Really stuck for ideas.
Thanks in advance
James

Do you have an EML on?. I would recommend a scan for fault codes. Just because it dosent kick in dosent mean the turbo is faulty.

Vacuum pipe work (if fitted ) ?
How is it controlled ?
Map/boost sensor readings ?
Induction side clear ?
Physically checked impeller blades/bearings ?
Service history complete?
That's my ideas

We had one in recently where the nut off the turbo shaft cold side had come off and killed the turbo. Luckily it got away with a new turbo.

I used that torque app.
the turbo didnt boost until late in the rev rangeand so was really laggy but now nothing so wondering if thats linked. Perhaps the wastegate stuck open or the boost controller valve is damaged ive read the MAP sensor is involved with the turbo operatiin. Mine has been cleaned but not tested. The annoying thing though is that the car revs and runs lovely but just no boost.
weird....

On my mum's 2007 Astra 1.9 CDTi 120 when the EGR was stuck slightly open (so no fault code) the car was flat as a pancake under 2000RPM then flew. Might be worth checking, but it sounds like you might want to get it on a proper scanner to see live data properly.

Yeah, thanks for reply. The garage has apparently tried a new egr during the fault diagnosics.

Those apps are only useful to a point when the EML is on. With no EML on, there could be manufacturer specific codes there that cheapie apps cannot read. It needs scanning with a proper scan tool and anyone handy with it will know where to look when they read the live data. The garage has apparently tried a new egr during the fault diagnosics. Again as I've said, the live data will give them clues. Swapping the EGR valve sounds like it was decided following a headscratch rather than a proper scan.

Beginning to look like one of those posts. crap or no info . waste of time typing..

Im sorry if you feel this is a cr*p post, all im doing is trying to get some clue as to where the fault could possibly be such as common faults or based off my written symptoms so i could try and get it fixed on the cheap rather then a garage eat the contents of my wallet.
the point of these fourums are for the common man to get some free info so to save a few quid rather then go to the garage, idiot...
forgive me for the lack of info but,
just looking for help not someone being shitty over an online threads lack of info.
Thanks anyway

Don't be put off by all the postings here.... Some folk may come across as not being helpful, but in reality, without the right info, a proper response won't be forthcoming... As Stilo said, you need to get the vehicle scanned for live data, manifold boost pressure would give a clue, low, could be a stuck open waste gate.....
Help,us to help you....
