Could one of you nice people double check for me the correct grade and specification of oil for a 2010 Seat Leon 2.0 TDI 16V with a DSG box (103 kW)which I believe is 140 BHP. I'm getting off one place 5W/30 and 5W/40 off another.

Yep, I've had the same....There's two different engine codes....These are PD engines...There's a choice of longlife or low ash.. So you'd be best either doing it via the motor factors with the reg no, or online with Comma Oils or similar

Also have to check if it's got a DPF?

Is it a CR TDi (common rail) or a PD?
I would say it's a CR and not a PD given the age, in which case it's 5/30 long life

DSG gearbox will pack up before the engine if the gear oil changes are neglected.
60-80k gearbox changes.

£250 for oil and filter change or £6000 for a new transmission

Out of interest what's the expected mileage of these long life oils
2 years / 18,000 miles ?
Never a fan of these extended service intervals , Unfortunately lots of manufacturers have gone this way
Can't understand if it's to catch the eye of big fleet buyers, reduced cost of servicing as we know is all false economy

Fiats/Alfa Romeos don't get there oil changed on service unless it's at a set degreagtion %
Then come back in a few months later for an oil change when the lamp comes on
Bonkers

Ford use a PCM calculated oil derogation strategy
Which means mostly town driving will bring on your service lamp before 1 year/12,500

Out of interest what's the expected mileage of these long life oils 2 years / 18,000 miles ? It depends on the conditions of use and/or its operating environment. Could be as low as 9-10,000 miles or up to 20,000 miles or two years. The LongLife Service regime is 20,000 miles or 24 months which ever occurs first and the Time and Distance regime will be around 10,000 miles or 12 months (which ever occurs first). These two regimes are usually set at the PDI stage when new and are usually set for Long Life Service but can be changed to Time and Distance on most VAG stuff.

Agree!!
Everyone around my neck of the woods runs a Longlife regime - irrespective of the make or age of their car, or the oil last used for the previous service. The oil change light on the instrument cluster (the yellow one marked "EMS" or equivalent) lets them know when it's time to get it booked in for a service and have the oil scooped out of the sump.
