what tyre sizes fit what wheel sizes ?

I have never really understood wheel/tyre sizing, so need some help please .

I Have got a couple of beaten up old alloys on my Saab and can get some brand new saab alloy rims for £18 each, but in a different diameter to the ones on the car, so will need to buy some new tyres too. Thats not the issue because I want to fit new tyres prob first week of Jan anyway.

My car was originally supplied with a choice of 15/16/17 wheels depending on the spec chosen etc.

195/60 15 / 205/50 16 / 215/45 17 were the choices

Im happy the fitment, pcd, centre hole and offset of the wheels are right, how do I determine what size tyres will fit? I want to fit the optimum size tyre for the wheel.

And dont tell me to sell it I like it

Thanks, helpful info, but Im also trying to work out what width tyre fits onto what wheel width?

That site gives a choice of wheel widths, but not necessarily the optimim one ?

There must be info out there but I cant find what I want

It gives recommended rim width at the top right.

What wheel size have you got in mind?

Yh, I saw that bit thanks,

Im looking at 15 inch wheels, saab number 400111340. Description is 15inch 5 stud 3 spoke wheel. No mention of its width.

So I need to find the wheel width, and then the optimum tyre size if that makes sense.

Found it, thanks. Its a 15 x 6 wheel so can now look at the tyres thanks
