Wifeys car, FSH from new, just crept up to 60k. It's a 1.6 16v auto. Just changed oil and filter again using 5w30 which it's had all its life, no noises and no smoke at all. When do you reckon I should switch to 10w40 instead?

Currently running 05 1.4 Astra Enjoy with 91k on clock (Astra G, built in Poland). Serviced by dealers for the first 4 years - Factory fill was 5W30 with 10w40 thereafter. Now self service with 10w40 semi and vauxhall filter every 5k/6 months. Never used any oil, nor did the 95 Astra F that I had for the 10 years prior to this alway used 10w40 semi.(Vauxhall's own or Fuchs)

Going back to the first poster: why change to a heavier grade if there is no problem? I take it from the post that the engine is not using oil and he is just wondering because of age or mileage.
