its a mechanical whirring nosie!!! customer thinks its water pump,it sounded more like around auto gearbox to me,its very intermittent and can only be heard on idle. will be having another look in the morning. any common problems on these?

Naaa not really, it could be the water pump bearings which shut up when revs are put on or the box drive shaft bearings.
I've got a sort of whirring noise on my 7 Series but I'm ignoring it.
One thing that confirms its my box is that it gets slightly worse when I put the car in drive then stops when I move off.

you lot are never gona belive this!!!! it wasnt anything mechanical!!!! it was doing it even with just ign on it seemed to coming from the headlamp it was the headlamps!!! disconnected the electric headlamp adjuster motors and all is quite again!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D mint
