Will a car registered in 1984 and has the ABS light on the dash fail an MOT?
Or is it too early?

Last time presented the light was so dim it was missable, the dash fuse has been removed and replaced and now you need sunglasses

Good point about MoT exemption. If this was my car, I would park it under cover and wait........
As far as I have ever done the research on this, there is no early cut-off for date, i.e. if ABS is fitted, it must be seen to work, and that means no fault-lamp on the dash, and a valid ignition-cycle of the lamp when the key is first turned-on. It doesn't mean it actually has to work, just the warning-lamp.......Hence so many kits out there to do this job, which works well on earlier cars without CANbus but with analogue signalling from the ABS controller to the dashboard.

Major fail. Few months time it will be MOT excempt. It’s post April, so exemption rolls to 2025 I believe If the Car was registered in 1984 then it will be mot exempt this year. IE: Was registered new June 6th 1984 will be MOT exempt as from June 7th 2024. You will still have to pay road tax this year but will be exempt from Road Tax and will qualify for Historic Tax from 1st April 2025.
