So, the UK is responsible for 1% of global pollution.
So why are we being pushed into Electric Cars, Electric Boilers, Low Emission Zones amongst a lot of other things?

One word…,Sheep..
Or it’s because the ‘brains’ of our great country have found a way to line their own pockets yet again at the masses expense..
It seems that every time there is an out cry over something bad, the government find a way to exploit it to make us pay…
Ooops this has gotten very political…I best stop…or risk censure….

That's my thoughts: Sheep. Yes the whole subject is political so say how you feel. We don't row or fall out on here.

"The United Kingdom population is equivalent to 0.87% of the total world population." Pollution per person - we are above the average - only slightly - but we are. ---------- In the year of my birth 1967 - there was 3.47 billion people on this planet This year there is 8 billion And by the time I die it will 10 billion. In my short lifetime the worlds population has tripled - this is where the problem lies Too many people consuming too much! I honestly believe this is route cause of all the earths resource problems - too many successful breeding medium sized mammals = US (Try getting you MP to sell that one as vote winner!) ----------- So if you wanna save the planet - stop shagging or use contraceptives.

A condom and bungee jumping are exactly alike. If the rubber breaks your f*cked. I'll get me coat.

So, the UK is responsible for 1% of global pollution. So why are we being pushed into Electric Cars, Electric Boilers, Low Emission Zones amongst a lot of other things? It's a tricky one to calculate, but we in the UK are worse than the figures actually suggest; the emissions quoted by politicians are only what we emit directly ourselves. We make b****er-all in this country, now, so we don't have bad emissions.
To make a fairer comparison with the Rest of World, you need to factor-in the emissions caused by us as a nation; we buy loads of c**p from China and the Far East, and therefore our emissions are displaced to them. Also, the emissions in transporting those ticky-tacky little gems halfway around the world (which does add-up to a significant proportion of the total world emissions) is not added onto our "bill".
If we weren't so useless as a nation, we would still be making the goods we consume, in an environmentally-responsible way, and the total emissions figure would be a fairer reflection on our love for consuming and discarding sh**e.

Very valid point - not one I had thougth of. "our emissions are displaced" by buying stuff in from other countries.

Maybe so, but we can’t be held responsible for the emissions of other countries where their processes are inefficient….

China have 1,455,643,924 so that's almost one and a half billion residents. We are responsible for 1%, they are responsible for 26% of the pollution. I took onboard what you said about us being slightly higher and yes we are, but how?! We have very little industry compared to them. Thinking deeper, I thought, we breed more than them..But google tells me since 2016 they are now allowed 3 children instead of 1. We in the UK have 2.4 children per family. I think the whole of the World would have to go back to living like Cavemen to make any real difference.

I think as far as I am concerned if we can make the environment where we live better, be it air quality, less river pollution, planting wild flowers and all the other things that's good news. I cannot do anything about the rest of the planet

We should resist buying products where the production of them causes disproportionate danger/damage. As a voting nation, we should be forcing our politicians to confront the reality of endlessly shipping all our products in. They have got away with "offshoring" for too many decades now - that's why we are losing the skills necessary to continue in some fields of work. It used to sicken me back in the early 90's, just starting-out properly in my career, and politicians and bean-counters all expounding the virtues of JIT (Just In Time - Just Too F***ing Late as we used to know it in the Engineering offices) and "bringing the best of the world together" by farming work out to the sweatshops of the East.
There are some things that are easy to point-out as examples: Mechanical bearings - you cannot get around needing these, whatever the end-product, yet we closed the last factory down decades ago. Let's hope that the Ukranians take pity on us when we are the ones at war, because we don't stand a chance as a nation!

I'm not sure if this is relevant but I think it was Ted heath who said it's all well and good doing everyone else's washing but who repairs the washing machine?
