Hello Everyone, I am looking to change career and after a long hard look at what I enjoy and I am good at, Vehicle Mechanics seems like the next logical step. So I was wondering if there is anyone out there willing to help me out with a few questions. I am 35 and living in Cornwall. - What training/qualifications will I need to look into getting?
- What would you be looking for when hiring someone?
- What route would be recommended? ie Full time courses ect
- When looking for work placements, what sort of garages would give the best range of experience?
I have always fixed and serviced my own bikes and cars where possible and recently have been helping a friend maintain his MG and restoring a Morris Minor Convertible.
Many Thanks, Kenny (yeah, I know, they killed me....the B*****S)

Hiya Kenny, I would say get your foot in the door at a local garage and get taken on as semi skilled. Night classes or part time at college for city and guilds. Or have you thought about auditioning for South Park?

I would agree with Rhubarb
Find a little local independent workshop that needs semi skilled/improver
College wise I'm not so sure I would bother unless you really need to learn the basics (anything run by local government is going to be textbook type stuff, you can buy the books and do it yourself)
The scannerdanner book/lectures are well worth the money if you want to learn to diagnose faults, he is a college instructor in the USA and has a lot of free stuff on YouTube as an introduction
Tech-Topics down your way, might be worth looking at if you want some really high end training

Thanks Guys,
I was already intending to ask similar questions to my post at local garages so looking for a semi-skilled post will be of benefit too.
Always willing to learn so I will look up the suggested materials and videos too.
Many Thanks Kenny
