Can anyone confirm that an MOT is still valid on the day of expiry up to midnight?
Secondly, and bearing in mind a condition of VED is that the car is MOT'd, if the car fails will the direct debit be cancelled?

As far as I know there's no automatic cancellation of VED direct debits if the car fails, only if the car is put on SORN.

It is a condition that there is a valid MOT when the VED is applied for, but beyond that DVSA will happily take your money until it comes up for renewal even if it fails an MOT the week after. Only way is to SORN. Kind of makes sense, where would you draw the line? It may fail, you know it will be repaired in a couple of weeks and be back on the road, would you be happy if it were cancelled? Onus on the owner as always!
