Had a nasty one this morning...
Super clean Kia Sorento 2004.
Rear axle mount, rotted away where top "cant" bar attaches (not radius or roll bars).
MOT expires in May.
I did weld it up. Heavy bit of 100mm x 80mm bit of box, 3.2mm arc welding rods, 14mm holes drilled thru for suspension mount bush-bolt.
(Shame is... I would guess my repair is stronger than the original bracket was, out of the factory.)
This will "buy them enough time" to get a secondhand axle...
Rest of the axle looked very good, not sure why the corrosion attacked that part?
Nice owner not too happy, his "minor suspension clunk" has morphed into "major surgery".
Oh well... I don't make the rules up!

If it's an tidy repair which it sounds like in your description. Once that repair section ages and gets covered in road film the tester maybe unaware.

Also depends on how the component was assembled from new, if it's a decent repair to a part that was made up of multiple pieces welded together then from memory any repair must be as strong as or stronger than the original.

There's a service campaign for that, the problem was they didn't have any drain holes in the axle mounting so it just collects water and mud and rot's accordingly.
