Received both the RH and LH rear bulb holders. Fitted the faulty one to the LH (N/S rear) and working ok after transferring the bulbs over. Kept the old one for now see if I can clean up the corroded terminal a bit better. Also fitted the RH one (O/S rear ) and that works ok so I have put the original one back and keep it as a spare. Also noticed both orange/amber indicator bulbs have started to peel off so I'll replace them when I get time as I haven't got any spare ones. Had a quick butchers at the oil leak and it's hard to see where the oil leaks coming from exactly but it's the drivers side and until it's cleaned up as it's blowing over the subframe it may be the sumps leaking?

Popped over to my mates place earlier for further investigation to the oil leak picked up on the MOT last week. I/We originally thought the sump was leaking but after a good look underneath it looks like the highest point of the leak is coming from the rocker cover nearest the bulkhead and running down. So it's been cleaned up and going to run it for a week and pop it back after next Mondays Bank Holiday and see what's what. Fingers crossed it's not the sump and the prognosis is right. Plenum chamber has to come off to access it so I might replace the spark plugs as well as they are due a change in a couple of months so wont do any harm to change them early. I'll have to check the Service History as I'm not 100% sure if they where changed two or three years ago? As far I was told it's every three years or 37,500 miles whichever comes first.

When I get a advisory that the orange flasher bulbs are too pale a bit of orange paint cures the problem

I used to put orange tinted bulbs into Defender rear indicator units that were loosing the lens colouration. I then realised that new Wipac indicator units were cheaper by 50pence each than the orange flasher bulbs from Ring, so I've sorted-out my priorities now!

I've just got a whole set to put on my 'new' 1985 90 - astoundingly cheap! (The last owner must have had it MOT'd by Stevie Wonder as they were so faded the tail lights were almost white) Oli

as long as there is a tinge of amber it's good enough according to our dvsa guy

as long as there is a tinge of amber it's good enough according to our dvsa guy It seems a subjective thing, and one that can often catch-out cars on Skye. I usually advise my customers not to take the risk - far easier to change the bulb at service time, than have to go through a re-test because the MoT tester is having a bad day!

The indicator bulbs normally have to be showing white light to fail, comparisons are front position or main beam lights, rear reverse lamp(s), if they don't look the same colour, pass and advise. Service standards however in my understanding should renew bulbs that visually are deteriorating.

Massive difference between an nearly new car and end of life scrap yard car. Forget your usual service standards while you have your MOT hat on .
Mot standards are just above scrap conditions
