Are the new rules concerning airbag and ABS warning lights etc actually in force now? When I last checked they had been put back on hold again? What's the situation with them now?

I thought improper ABS light function (not self-testing or remaining lit) had been a fail for ages? Airbag light was to be added but still not happened.

If its got abs then the system needs work correctly ie self test then turn off All ford cars from 2004 onwards had abs fitted as standard Not sure it's the law just more customer/safety/euro ncap expect ions

I seem to remember reading in CM that there was to be gentleman's agreement that all new cars would have ABS. I think it was aimed more at the small economy stuff from Korea etc. But that must have been about 2009 and there's certainly no law in force at the moment at you still have to pay extra for ABS on a defender.
Whether it should be law...now there's a question I'm not sure I know the answer to!

On the one hand I think it would be better from a safety point of view, especially for the average driver - I don't believe anyone who tells me they can cadence brake better than ABS - but on the other hand I'm not sure I like the idea of making people have all these safety features on their cars.
