Does anyone have a rough idea of the comercial going-rate to paint a 1999 TD5 Defender in a solid green colour, just four loose panels to include 1)bonnet 2) inner/top wing 3) outer wing 4)grille panel ?
I'm still waiting on an official quotation, but I'm not sure what to provision for the insurance company for paints and finishes! I am pitching around £385 +VAT for the four (new, factory-finish) panels to be coloured, with all the supply and transportation sorted-out by myself.
Thanks in advance for any help here.

I think cost really depends on quality of finish desired I.e how much time involved to prep panels
Or are you after a quick blow over

I think this job needs to be to an acceptable level for an insurance repair. The panels will be new & OEM (LR Genuine parts in 3 out of 4 cases), so will come with a decent primer already on them. But this job needs farming-out to a body-shop, rather than just a blast at the back of the workshop, hence the reason I was interested in the likely cost. As it's a commercial job, this is way beyond a) what I am allowed to do (from an environmental controls point of view, which is strict in Scotland), and b) what I'm capable of doing. I'm fairly happy working in cellulose and enamels for my own classic restorations, and have had some good results in the past from HVLP and air-receiver fed guns (the latter of which is still my preferred tool), but my trade is not painting (just ask Mrs. Valhalla )

Seems way to cheap, will that include removing old panels and refitting new and I presume no blending.

Valhalla OMO you are being optimistic with your pitching price and you may well be when you are quoted by a reputable bodyshop. I recon you could well be looking at double that and approaching a grand. The average price for a car respray is around 2 grand these days depending on location yours is bigger than average/normal ( vehicle that is )

Not sure he wants a complete re paint of the whole car.
Just 4 separate panels

Not sure he wants a complete re paint of the whole car. Just 4 separate panels I am aware Valhalla only wants four panels hence me quoting in my earlier post Karl.

Thanks for the replies all. It's a difficult pitch to make, as the panels are brand-new, loose, need nothing in the way of filling, all they will need is a good wash and degrease before priming and top-coating. Your comments about the estimate I have used being too low are valuable. I had worked on the basis of around £260 labour, £125 materials, +VAT, given that the paint is a solid colour and ought not be too difficult for a skilled painter to spray, nor obtain the paint at the right price.
