but surely after only a maximum of 18months the clutch shouldnt be down to wear and tear. if it is the clutch, the other option is if you can find out the manufacturer of the clutch that comes as standard contact them about their policies. Can often see clutches destroyed within only a few thousand miles In extreme cases a few hundred

If your Vauxhall main agent won't honour the problem under warranty, get in touch with Vauxhall direct and keep at them, I have known them help if you keep at them.

The way we approach warranty clutch repairs
Owner always has to agree to cover costs of transmission removal ( or job doesn't start) and understand possible costs
Warranty clutch jobs are a nightmare

It's not the dealer who decides if it's manufacturers warranty or not ! Either

An update: The burning smell is still there and is now possibly getting worse, it's not fading away like the main dealer suggested may happen. So the dilemma now is either to book the car into Vauxhall and hope that the problem is some kind of failure and not wear and tear, so that it will be covered under the warranty or to book it into an independent dealer which will probably be half of the cost.
Any advice please?

Well I recommend you get a price for installing a clutch kit from both an independent and the Vauxhall agents
Before you decide what to do
Bearing in mind if it was an manufacturing defect and is discovered/repaired/replaced at the independent . the Vauxhall agent wouldn't then be able to honour warranty.

Any idea if it is likely that the DMF would also need changing? I realise that you are not a fortune teller, but are there any signs that there is a DMF problem without a strip down?
