On Friday
It's a St. Albans taxi
2.0 dw10 16 valve engine
It needed a clutch and turbo when I discovered the head gasket was pressurising the cooling system as well
He authorised it all to be taken down and striped down to big end and mains
Shock and surprise,it's in perfect condition.
Now this vehicle has history,upto 178k the owner had changed the oil every 5k,his theory was that the last thousand miles is when the damage is done as the oil has lost it's slippery properties and it's containing to many carbon deposits!
Well I agree with him completely!
The next guy done 20k init and sold it in 2012.
The 3rd owner had a spot of bother with it,nobody in his neck of the woods could find out or fix it,I was recamended.
I found an injector faulty and engine had to come out to do it!
He had a new clutch done while pt was out.
It's done about a 100k since that time.
The only hard part this time was getting two injectors out!!
One fell out,one came out ok,the other two had to be dismantled and pulled out!
It's in a million pieces atm,all over my workshop!
By the way,the only casualty of so many oil changes was the sump plug threads in sump.
It needed a retread and a new bigger plug fitted,vw golf was just perfect!!
1.5mm pitch by 14mm diameter,perfect!!

Good stuff.
Gota say that being a French motor (not a big fan im afraid) I'm surprised in some ways, not in others.
I get the impression that French diesels can go on and on, its just the bits around it that let it down.
I'm all for regular oil changes on my own motors too, all this 'long life' servicing BS is just that,
BS to satisfy the big fleet opperators. Idont care what anyone says, no oil can go for 30K!!!
Would be interested in seeing some pics of the shell's, pistons etc.

Found slight scratching on a couple of bearings
So gona recommend new bearings and rings
Oil control ring don't look too good.

Can't beat regular oil changes for longevity, the local garage I use for MOTs had a fleet of petrol Cavaliers they used to look after many years ago, one had done 400k without any problems - that would have been using mineral oil back in the day so not the protection you get now.
It's not so much mechanical issues that cause problems now, rather sensors/dpfs/injectors etc

Here's a question for Karl Benz
I believe they use a newer version of this engine in the smax and galaxy mondeo
It's a cam belt that runs a single pulley,then a chain joins both cams together inside cylinder head.
Have you ever had any instances of this link chain stretching or breaking?

Thanks Not on the 2.0 dw But at 300,000 any things possible Solid engine is this Had one last year come in with low oil pressure, though had unknown history So more neglect than engines fault Even newer 1.6 DV haven't seen any major failures It's are new 1.0 Eco boost which is having a few teething problems at the moment |

Its obviously had regular oil changes looking at the lack of crap on all the components.

Thanks Hi We've had a timing chain snap on one of these a few years ago, locking the cams & taking the cam belt teeth with it, the sprockets are sweated onto the cams, the sudden stop of the cams made the sprockets move on the cams, which didn't show up until there was no compression when timed back up on the belt & chain. as there's no way to accurately set the cam to sprocket positon 2 new cams were fitted ( i think around £400ish) & no valves were bent |

i've heard of that with the dv6, i think the lobes themselves are sweated onto the camshaft on that engine

Yes I can never get my head round things this
It's simply friction holding the two surfaces together
I'm sure one of fords transmissions 5th gear is held on this way

they probably are
don't do transmissions, used to do autos in the eighties at fraud main dealers, don't miss 'em one bit though, i'll stick to the engine side & Mot's
