Hi This customer wants me to price up a cambelt Fords parts told me it has a cambelt and separate wet belt driving the pump. They said both should be done at 100k cos they have had some fail at 110k miles. Does anyone know the invoicing times for doing the cambelt and the wet belt? Are fords correct in that both need to be changed? Thanks

Yes changed fuel pump to crank from chain to wet belt around 2009
This due to emission regs
Most garages don't change or know about the fuel pump wet belt..
All day job to do both belts !
Will cost around £1000 from a dealer

Reduced friction apparently
0.1 grams reduction or something silly I'd expect

So how does putting a belt in oil affect emissions then? It actually doubles emissions because the car crushers are working overtime as no one can afford to repair all the broken belts hence weighing them all in

What's the world coming to at all, £1000 to replace a timing belt. My Dad was in this business before me , imagine telling him it costs a grand to change a Belt in a ford, he'd tell you he bought fords new for less than this.

I charge £720 with an accessory belt and my local dealer charges £759 without.
I won't do it any cheaper!

Does anyone know if the water pump runs off cam belt and if not what is the invoicing times for that? And can anyone give me the times for cambelt and timing belt in oil? Thanks

4.1 hours
But I didn't do them in this time
Maybe if you speedy mechanical wizard
You'll need a fuel pump gasket and crank shaft seal , I'd get a new crank bolt too
And black sealant for the front cover

There's also a fibre washer between timing cover and backplate for one of the bolt holes.
Takes me about 6.5 hours without interference (which never happens)
Crap job. It's the type of job I'll quote one price and one price only and not bothered if I don't get it!
I lost one the other day to another 'ford specialist' local to me and he quoted £550 all in according to the customer..
He can do them all for that price

Is it just the 1.8 TDCI with the belt in oil setup? Luckily mine is an early one, but I may well be replacing the galaxy with a newer one in the not too distant future and wouldn't mind knowing which engine to go for l?
