Hi,
I have an 03 plate 1.6 Focus which has developed a driver's side window problem. I can hear the mechanism "click" but there's no attempt for the window to move either up or down. I suspect that this is a mechanical problem rather than an electrical one due to the "click". I started stripping the door down this afternoon with the "help" (?? !!!) of Mr Haynes, but am now faced with a dilemna - apparently to remove the window regulator mechanism, you have to remove the window glass. To remove the window glass, you have to lower the window so that the two retaining bolts become accessible through the door frame aperatures. You can therefore see my "catch 22" situation !!
Does anyone know how to lower the window "mechanically", or has anybody any other solution to my problem ?
Appreciate any help !

With looking at the set up.....
I would attempt to remove the motor, then you should be able to manually push the glass down.
Assuming the regulator hasn't jammed/seized
Sounds like it's normally the window regulator

I assume there is some sort of gearbox between the motor and the transmission wires - will the motor separate from the gearbox in situ ? ( Unfortunately, Haynes doesn't cover this) Is it obvious what bolts hold the thing together ? Thanks again !

Hi they have two 10mm bolts on each window channel that are usually hidden behind the foam covering on the door. Undo those bolts and the bolts securing the motor and disconnect wiring and jiggle everything free. The glass can now be pulled down and you will see the two clamps holding the glass to the regulator, undo and pull glass back up to close position secure with gaffer tape. Wiggle the regulator out and do reverse of what you have done.

Hi Karl and mk10, Only just got your post mk10 - actually got it out this morning !! I DID unscrew the 4 bolts holding the motor to the regulator frame, but was a little worried as the electrical connector was "on the other side". With all 4 bolts out, the motor would move a bit, but wouldn't come out - so I abandoned that approach ! I then removed all 5 bolts securing the regulator to the door frame, and got a spanner into the door void and loosened off the two bolts clamping the glass to the regulator. Each of the frame sliders can then be rotated to allow the glass more room to move, and got it low enough to withdraw the glass !!! Unfortunately, I managed to break one of the plastic bits that guide the glass down, so that wasn't good. Haven't investigated what caused the original problem yet, but suspect I'll be off to a breaker's yard fairly soon ............ !! (Making wooden blocks to hold the glass in place for the interim !!!)
Many thanks to both !l

Some people state they have got the motor going by tapping it thats never worked for me ,its always been the cables / drive Hi mac, Whilst separating the motor from the regulator frame, I found higher tension on one side than on the other. Connected the motor and it runs fine ! Move the glass lifters by hand and then suddenly everything was free !!! I guess it must have been over-driven and jammed. Does the motor have some sort of clutch to stop it driving "past the end" or what ? (Managed to "repair" the broken guide by a bit of plastic "welding" with a soldering iron and a bit of spare plastic as a "filler" !! It survived the strain of refitting to the rail, so I'm optimistic !! Will slap the whole thing back and see how we go - definitely leaving that weather-shield layer off for the moment (horrible butyl muck - yuck !)

Now what you're NOT taking into account is the fact that I'm Irish, and the Irish frequently have Scottish tendencies when it comes to spending money !!! But seriously, for the time that'll take to slip the whole thing back into the door, it's gotta be worth a try - if it fails, then I'll bite the bullet !! (but I'm cautiosly optimistic ..... !) Thanks again !
