In a second hand car that I have just bought I took out the spare tyre to check it and found a rust hole at the bottom of the spare tyre well. The rust hole is around the size of an orange and goes straight through. Will this cause it to fail the MOT. I have taped over it for now and put the spare tyre back?

Unlikely corrosion needs to be within 30cm of a load bearing member,steering/suspension components or seat belt mounting

Is rot near a towbar mounting still a fail if no towbar is fitted?
Just run a hole saw through the hole to make it nice and neat, then fit a large rubber grommet

Cover it with a £20 note for the mot tester.
