My niece has a 2001 Corsa 1L 3cyl and the engine has given up in a big way . Apparently the 1L 3cyl engine fitted to Corsas changed around 2000. The post 2000 engines are very scarce around here as they seem to be in big demand -can't get one anywhere . 2 dismantlers have told me that they have been told that the older engine can be fitted to the later car with a bit of 'rearranging'. But neither know of anyone actually carrying out this 'conversion'. One of them has just taken in a 1998 Corsa with a perfect engine and 107K genuine miles. I can get the engine for a very good price . But I want to be sure that I can fit it . So I'm hoping that someone on the forum may know for sure if its possible (or not). Both engines are 1L 3 cylinder .

i dont know what the physical differences are. is it worth buying the whole car complete? then you can swap everything over and make the later car into a more reliable earlier car!!

I had a T plate Corsa with the 1.0 l engine and it looks pretty much the same as my daughter's 63 plate version.... I thought the X10x engine was pretty much the same throughout the years....? Can't you take some measurements?

Early ones had conventional power steering....Later ones went electric...? I wouldn't be surprised if the engine mounts are different too.. You'll have to park them side by side and have a good nosey..

I just looked at a Haynes manual for the P to X range and the engine code is X10XE check the code on your car.....probably the same.... The older Corsa 1.0 versions had electronic power steering.....if this helps?

I was in the Vx dealer network at the launch of the 3 cyl. It was taken off the market for a number of reasons, one being torque reaction of the engine meaning modified engine mountings etc. this is the reason the early engine is so scarce. I believe the core engine is more or less the same, engine mounts ECU etc are a different matter. Hope this is of help

I believe you can as a mate couldn't get a 1.0 for his corsa c and bought a mot failure corsa b with good engine and it's on the road now so couldn't have been much modification's not sure about twinport models though.

Spoke to my mate and he says strip B engine down to bare block and re build with parts from c engine it will become apparent what to change,inlet manifold,rocker cover,few sensors,extra bolt holes blocking and unblocking,couple of other bit's n bobs but do able.

Thanks for all the replies. Having had a good look at both engines they seemed very similar but I hoped to find that someone had succeeded in swopping - and spannermonkey's mate did exactly what I was hoping to do . This was the third 'older' engine I was offered so I decided it was time to try for more advice . The older engines are available I think because no one wanted to try fitting a B engine to a C . The car is clean etc - even had 6 mths test left on it . But without an engine its worthless . The dismantler told me that these (C) engines needed a water pump and oil pressure switch at regular intervals . A customer of his who followed this advice put up 220 K mls on a Corsa C before selling it on . Coolant leaks and oil leaks led to low levels and problems . Will let you know how it goes .
