2001 1.6,anyone done them and got any tips/advice as not got a press or use of one,being done on drive way,looks like axle out to me unless a bodge is known,bushes are a few quid but seems a good few hours work ahead of me if weather breaks.

Tool can be purchased on ebay for about £35 delivered save taking the axle right off, I've only done them once on a press.

lol,that's what i had in mind to remove the bush,bit of threaded rod and two sockets,so i may be able to do it without removing axle after all.

Assuming they are the same as mk4 golf, undo bolt thru bush, bottom of shocker and flexi pipe, burnt out the rubber carefully, with some tiles positioned to direct heat away from the fuel tank. Beat the metal sleeve out with a chisel. The new one then pulls in nice and easy with a bit of grease and the tool.
The guy who loaned me the tool advised against using it to pull the old bush out. Can't remember why though.
