Hi guys, The wife has a 2002 Focus Silver, with a 1.6 Zetec petrol engine, great car which has covered 133k miles to date I've been driving it on holiday for the last few days, and noticed thet when the engine starts to labour at low revs, or when picking up after changing gear the engine starts to "pink" as if the timing is too advanced, or too low an octane fuel is being used Since neither of these things can be changed on a 'modern' ECU controlled engine, do you have any ideas as to what could be the problem that's causing this pinking noise? (diagnostics are showing no codes)

Mostly likely thing will be worn out spark plugs.
When did it last have a set?

Sorry, I should have said, spark plugs, leads, and coil pack were renewed a few months back due to a misfire which brought on the engine light. Plugs were Bosch, leads and pack were generic, if it makes a difference

Were did the last lot of fuel come from any idea? 1962 Lol, I wish, four and sixpence a gallon would be awesome I'm not sure where she fuelled up before the holiday, probably a supermarket though. I'll fill it with a premium brand next time and try again, thanks

The knock sensor is usually located at the back of the engine, towards the flywheel end? if that helps? If it isnt there, try looking on the net for pictures of the knock sensor and then locate it on the engine from the image....or ask you local Ford dealer... Sorry not v. helpful I know but at least it'll get you started..... Know anyone with a Haynes manual?

Thanks, that's all very useful I do have a Haynes, but their picture locations are worse than useless because they never show the surroundings properly I'll report back after I've refilled it with 'better' fuel (Step one)

She would never have noticed it, and I haven't mentioned it either, safer that way She tried to cover up when she put petrol in the diesel Transit by filling it to the top with diesel to dilute the mix, but was outed the minute I got in and started it because I knew it wasn't running right, and had to admit the crime
