You would think that Ford could have come up with a better design than a single o ring and a flimsy plastic clip to prevent the entire cooling system from spraying all over your feet. I managed to pull the header pipes through the bulkhead enough to seperate them from the matrix. Inserted short length of hose and rejoined the pipes with jubilee clips. Not easy laying under the dash in a pool of coolant but worth the effort. Hi what size heater hose did you use ?

Not sure on the hose size, I raided a box of spares I had.
I would have thought about 20mm or so?
I'm fairly sure the hose that goes through the bulkhead in the engine bay is the same size if you wanted to measure the bore.

I have just done a repair on one of these, the pipe had an o ring in and that had just basically dissolved, new o ring and plastic clip cost less then 10 pound to repair, easy but fidgety

Altho the heater core is my problem now, is there any way I can change that without taking the full dash out,

No , and it's not just the instrument panel but also the metal reinforcing behind it. Which means front doors off .
I had to do a 2014 model last week and also had to remove the complete climate control assembly to replace the heater core

It's the eternal optimism of car designers that really makes the day worthwhile; find something that goes back 40years or so (a heater matrix), review how far it has come in terms of redesigns (precious little) in that time, then throw all the experience of old right out the window (it leaks and goes wrong fairly commonly in the lifetime of a car), then build it in even further to the structure of the car than ever before, just to prove how reliable it must now have become...... Only Landrover, in the guise of the Range Rover from 1970, could have preempted the fashion so early in the 20th century by making the heater matrix unserviceable from the word go back then!!

It's all about production, seen it many times where people will spend ages fudging around where it would have been quicker to remove the whole dash to fix the problem.
