I will have everything you require to solve your problem
, but we must follow a logical routine to diagnose and solve your problem.
I take it the car now will not start
Lets use a sequence;
Check these items and use a wiring diagram to aid your diagnosis
Inertia fuel shut-off (IFS) switch - if fitted
- (If you have fuel under pressure to the metering unit then this switch is active.)
Electrical connections - engine/battery
- (Check for good clean and secure connections, check condition of cables and connections for being corroded)
Fuses/fuel pump relay/engine control relay
- (For this you will require a wiring diagram, but if you have ignition spark at the plugs and fuel pressure, it should be OK)
Ignition system
- (Check spark plugs for fouling and correct spark plug gaps)
Condition of fuel/fuel filter
- (Check fuel supply - Volume of fuel supply to metering unit, and not pressure)
Air intake system/vacuum system - leaks
- (This would have to be pretty obvious, but if you have access to a vac gauge connect to the inlet manifold where the brake servo vac pipe connects and crank engine, should get a vacuum of between 15 - 20 inch) and should be reasonable steady at cranking speed.
Fuel pressure/delivery rate/fuel pressure regulator - (now you require a fuel pressure gauge)
Injectors
- (are they mechanical or electrical)? If they are mechanical remove one and leave connected to the fuel line, then into a container while cranking the engine check fuel delivery through the injector, have you got any?
Volume air flow (VAF) sensor - (If not, gain access to the airflow meter and while cranking the engine depress the silver round disc in the airflow meter and check for fuel delivery, have you got fuel supply while depressing the silver round disc in the airflow meter?)
Engine control module (ECM)
- (If you have not made satisfactory headway by this point you now require a full checking procedure that will take a bit of time to write up)
See how you go above and let us know the outcomes of each test
