I swore a lot today. The rudest words that came to me were "Ford" and "Transit".
Mk.7 front wheel bearing, all going well considering how rusted-together it all was. The "job was over" as I reached into the box for the new SKF bearing unit, offered it up to the drive-flange stub-axle, it slipped down without a hint of sticking....
Yes, this POS has a 45mm stub-axle, and the bearing in the box, which should have been the correct one, is 48mm. That means my ramps, and indeed the whole workshop, is now blocked until the new kit arrives. Which for me might be over a week.
So, if the weather is dry-enough tomorrow morning, means I'm working on the floor just inside the doorway to do the swivel-bearings on the Defender coming-in at 10:00.......

No option to reassemble it as much of a pain that is?
I've had the joys of putting a car back together yesterday after ECP sent the wrong parts.
Boss ordered rear brake shoes and a rear wiper for a 2017 Nissan Juke.
ECP sent Handbrake shoes, some spring fitting kit (which we didn't ask for) presumably for the handbrake shoes and the wrong rear wiper.
Nobody else had the shoes available, turns out Euro cannot even get them. Back together it went.

No option to reassemble it as much of a pain that is? Not this time ! The old bearing quite literally fell-apart when the hub was pulled off the knuckle, which is usually a bonus on one of these. But only if the new part fits......
What I do is use long, threaded screws through the brake-disc holes, and drive the hub/bearing assembly away from the knuckle. The hope is that I manage to loosen both, but in this case, the bearing was so, so poor (it was one of the worst I have seen on a Transit; the roller cage was missing on one side of the outer bearing, and the wheel had a wobble of nearly an inch at the rim.....) that it just tore the outer and inner bearings away with the hub/disc assembly, and left the (usual) inner bearing inner race behind on the stub-shaft.
Thus I had to use the air impact hammer to drift the old bearing assembly out of the knuckle, rather than it pull out with the screws.

Spent today wondering when that bearing is going to turn-up.
Ramps and workshop still bunged-up = no work going through.
Just as well I have a massive IT bug to fix on the business.....

Well I discovered today that BMW dealers are just as good- or bad- as their reputation. I was playing with my new toy- see separate thread in Trade- and tidying up cables for dash cam etc. one of my pet hates is dangling cables over the dash. Having discovered these have a hidden power socket under the glovebox, I ran the cable around the screen trim and around to this, invisible and much neater. Then found no power to this socket! Removed panel under the dash and found that when the dealer replaced the pollen filter on last service, they did not reconnect the plug to this socket. No big deal. But while I was there decided to check said filter as the heater airflow isn’t that great. Damn thing was still in its plastic wrapper Heater is much better now…..

I bet the filter was nice and clean though. 🤣 Mrs V. had a water filter fitted on the drinking-water supply in the shop. After 18months, I had a feeling it was not doing its job......same thing as above, wrapper still on it as-fitted by the plumber !
How the filter unit flowed any water.....still defeats me.......

Spent most of the day "gardening", as the weather has turned balmy here.
Morning was spent making willow "whips" and sticking them in the ground around the East and North boundaries. I reckon about 100 trees got planted, making a total of 150 trees I have done like this since the start of March. The objective is to make the fenceline as uninviting to canine noses as possible.
Afternoon was spent on the South boundary, around 250metres of fencing that hasn't been touched for a few years now. The lower strainer wire was snapped (rust, what else?) and had a) let the fence drift upwards near the base, and b) created the ideal dog-flap for the Great Escape at several places. I reckon I have got 2 more days work on this bit of the fencing, so I just left all the bales of wire and spare stobs & post-knocker next door (I have to work from the other side on this job) and collapsed, exhausted, over my dinner this evening.

i treated myself to a petrol fence post knocker a couple of years ago, i helped the guy put all the fenceposts in around our perimeter on a week off that my mrs volunteered me to do (my birthday as well!) i think there's about 120 posts that we knocked in with one of those heavy tube jobbies with handles. having had carpol tunnel fixes done on both of my hands i'm not keen to repeat the experience, hence the petrol jobbie.

I had steroid injections in my wrists 2021 - took 3.5m months during covid.
Last year asked for the same in my thumbs, X-rays / bloods then a referral for a rheumatologist and now on a 30 month waiting list........... Just to see one!
Finish the home delivery job on Sunday as it's affecting my shoulders, waking up in the night too.

Dunno if I mentioned this before, but I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. Started in my left knee, then affected both thumb joints, so badly had to wear splints…to disable the joints. The Occupational Therapist told me if I didn’t look after the joints, they would die….!! A bit melodramatic.. but it was that badly swollen, I couldn’t even hold a biro to write with… So today I have damaged joints caused by it, I have trigger finger in both hands a dodgy back, gammy knees….outlook..? Hmm nothing a bit if lead in the ear wouldn’t cure… oh and I have Methotrexate injections once a week… Look after yourselves guys, it ain’t no picnic…
