Haulage company I used to work for, come crhistmas time, the subbie would come in and sweeten up the traffic desk workers so they would get extra work and easy stuff for the year, there was talk of thousands going to each one of them

For us it used to be October that was the hardest month:

Car insurance
Bikes insurance
2 x bikes tax
Car tax
Car MOT

We're not too badly off these days as changing the cars and putting the bikes off the road for a while meant we could defer a lot of stuff and spread it out over the year.

Anyway, why aren't you skimming the interest off your VAT account? That's usually a nice little earner ;D
