Why do you look a tw*t? I didnt feel like one when driving a Corsa 3 pot....in fact iirc, the Polo 1 litre was a 3 pot jobbie wasnt it? that was a nice car, but 3 cyl do tend to run uneven...

Me neither, in fact any 3 pot engined car…POS…. I got a Skoda 1.0 Citigo (use it as loaner). I am not keen on 3cyl engines at all really - but they are here to stay. (just cheaper to make three of everything than four!)

Me neither, in fact any 3 pot engined car…POS…. These ecoboost things have like a split personality. No guts down the bottom end, rev the nuts off them to make them go and the economy dives. Plus there's been a few issues with them and they aren't designed to be repaired. My Mitsubishi is a 3 cylinder, drives normally, and just works.

3-pots in and of themselves aren't an issue except for them being less well balanced.
Regarding the ecoboost in my parents' 2013 Fiesta the problem I had there was as you say there was no response at all off-boost, so you'd find yourself "rowing" up and down the box all the time. Also, as this was a 5 speed car the gear ratios were very high and quite widely spaced, which helped economy but meant you had reduced engine braking.

Not enough flywheel/crankshaft weight - you find yourself raising the revs to pull off - prematurely wearing the clutch plate. All the VW UP and Skoda Citigo loaners I have/had - clutches only last 60.000miles max.
