To put this into context, you would expect to breakdown on most journeys if you had a modern Landrover product, whereas it's quite a surprise to come to a grinding stop with a classic....I reckon you aren't doing too badly here.....

Park up with fuel in it for a time? Ethanol problem. Don’t think so Rhubarb, this one is in regular use, done c3k miles since I finished the rebuild last Christmas. Also the rust was on the “dry” side of the diaphragm, so I can only think this was caused by poor storage before I got it. The dry side is not hermetically sealed so condensation can get in.

Well I thought I would do a proper close out on this thread as it is now a year since I first drove it. It’s done just on 5k miles and aside from the fuel pump issue above, has been completely reliable.
The only other issue I have had could happen to any car, a lorry chucked up a rock and put the biggest chip in the screen I have ever seen and in a couple of miles it had cracked top to bottom. Thought of doing it via insurance but none of their recommended outfits had a clue about the car and the one that did said he wasn’t prepared to take on the chrome trims. Then found I could get a screen for £95 so did it myself, hate those chrome trims took me over 2 hours to get them back in.
So cost wise it is working out very well, apart from the screen, oil and filters all I have paid is £120 to insure it, no tax etc. and it gives me early 30’s in fuel too.
Reckon I will keep this one a while and give any further updates in the fleet section.
