Quick question: My sister has a 2016 Transit Custom 2.2 TDCi which needs a new battery. Its non a stop-start equipped van therefore the listed battery is a standard 110-sized wet battery.
Would paying extra for an EFB or AGM type battery give better capacity for "leisure" use (e.g. leaving the doors open and interior lamps draining the battery etc)? From what I can see the raw capacity/CCA numbers favour a wet battery.

I would go with a standard flooded battery to be honest as they last longer and can cope with low current drains better
EFB/AGM are principally designed to cope with repeated high amperage engine starts and then heavy smart charging(stop/start)
RAC offer 5 year warranty on standard flooded batteries
4 years on AGM
3 years on EFB

Thanks, that makes sense and also explains why you can't seem to find long warranty EFB/AGM units.
I'll let my sister know the score and price up the highest capacity 110 wet battery I can find.

A choice of 110 wet batteries link. Warranty varies depending on the battery chosen. IE 3-5 years.

That's who I use for everything from UPS to tractor batteries, including the ruddy massive one my dad wanted for his Ford 4600 that arrived on a sodding pallet!
I'll give my sister the info (I think its about £90 for an 85Ah unit) and offer to fit it next time I go to the ice hockey.

They wanted to sell me a Banner make battery for £130 when the had cheaper and better brands for less - Exide and Varta

They have a decent Yuasa unit available for £90 with a 5 year warranty, which is what I was going to suggest. The second option would be the slightly less capacity Varta/Bosch ones as they're made by the same firm who supply Ford

We been fitting Yuasa AGM batteries - two at a time to Transit Customs (stop start) here with no problems at all.
Not to bad to do - under the drivers seat - as long as the van does not have a "bulkhead".

This one's crew van spec with split seats so it should be OK. This one's not a stop-start model and I think its just the one battery in it.

At the front of seat there is 2x torx 45 screws - take these out - it will allow the seat to go further forward on the rails. The "rag flap dust cover" at the back of the seat - lift up and secure it to the seat with a "bungey strap" round the seat - if not it will keep dropping down and annoy you like hell (spoil the job).

I was driving home one night in my 68 Transit Custom And kept getting a lovely smell of takeaway food, eventually my backside started getting a bit 🔥 and I realised it was one of the 2 AGMs boiling itself to death Luckily I stopped and disconnected the duff one and drove it the last few miles home Non Stop/Start but has twin AGMs

Most have pairs of EFB I have seen.

If it is a twin-battery van do both units need changing at the same time?

If it is a twin-battery van do both units need changing at the same time? I do always change them as a pair. I think - with a battery management system - you have not got a lot of choice. There is also a reset function on most scan tools for these Fords after a battery change. I tend to find thou only once battery is pooped - and I keep the semi goods ones for workshop "jump starting".

I always test them separately, just changed the knackered one on mine and it's been fine to be honest
