Supervag: I think you've made an error. If you can't see the unladen weight on the plate then you work from the gross vehicle weight, which as presented was over the weight for a class 4, so you shouldn't have tested it. I 100% agree with you now on that one single event, however, what would you do with a Ford Transit GVW 3145 kg presented to you with 5 seats fitted, side windows and rear windows fitted? I wouldn't have tested it. I would have directed them to a Class 7 test site. It's a commercial vehicle with extra seats, not a 4 x 4 crewcab truck which is what the mot manual is getting at.

Lot of semi crew van coversions going on - I see a lot of vans with dark glass in the sides. Does not really appeal to me - my two crafters have three seats in the front - and I don't have too many friends.

The 4x4 criteria is not set in stone as far as the regulations advise.

You can twist it around as much as you like David but at end of the day you've incorrectly tested a vehicle as a class 4 which is a class 7

But Dave says it's ok. He read the manual and everything He did not just read the manual - he went on endless training cources as well. I got to hear about them in every detail. He would have been better off spending the money on - alcohol/coke - ladies of the night! It may have put him in a less hatefull mood with the rest of the world.
